Forever in our hearts

“A grandfather is someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.” This year we had to say goodbye to two veterans, fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Their spirit may be gone, but their stories, their laughter, and the kindness that they passed on to us will keep on living.

Don Moulden

Don grew up in Bloomington, IN. He enlisted in the US Army and fought in Europe during World War II. He earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his bravery. After WWII, he worked at a car dealership, raised 5 children, read hundreds of books, and participated in school programs where he shared his numerous life stories. Don passed away at age 93.

Samon Horii

Samon grew up on a family farm in Dinuba, CA. He was drafted into the US Army, where he served in the medical corp at Fort Lewis. Then he graduated from the Military Intelligence Services (MIS). After WWII, he started a local gardening business, raised 3 children, was involved in his community, and never missed a grandkid’s game or piano recital. Samon passed away at age 103.
